Some good stakes racing across the country this weekend, lets dive in…
At Aqueduct we have the heavenly prize and the Gotham on tap Saturday. In the Heavenly Prize I really like Cali Star in this spot. Shes gotten really good under Wolfson and just lost to a good one last out. Should sit a great stalking trip.
In the Gotham, im going agaisnt favorite Shagaf. Im looming for Conquest big E to rebound off a dismal Holy Bull effort. Had no shot running against the grain of a speedy course at Gulfstream, has shown 3 great works for this, and like that Casse hasnt given up hope. Look for a big rebound. Also Adventist has a nice upset chance.
At Gulfstream, there are 3 competitive graded stakes on the Saturday card. First is The Very One and it looks like Dacita will be the one to beat. Adding blinkers, she shouldnt be so far back today and looks ready to run for Chad off the layoff.
Next is the Gulf. Park Handicap where Todd Pletcher runs 4 here. Out of those 4, Sanford and Itsaknockout intrigue me most. Valid might get the right trip, and theres no Mshawish here who hes finished second to in his last 2 races. I look for Itsaknockout to prove best. Loves Gulf, and run well at this one turn mile distance.
Lastly is the Mac Diarmida where the old gelding Twighlight Eclipse returns in his first race since the Breeders Cup. I think he may need the race and im staying away. Mr. Maybe really excites me here, last 2 races have been eye popping and Chad seems to be very high on this son of Ghostzapper. Might not get a fast pace to run into but has shown the ability to still show his closing kick when not getting the perfect set up. Also All Included should be tough here. Just lost to Lukes Alley and Heart to Heart, both would be favorites in this spot.
At Santa Anita, theres not much to say about the Santa Ysabel. The unreal Songbird is back and is 1/9 on the morning line. She looks unbeatable and should just jog around the place in what will end up being a paid workout. You have to feel bad for Land over Sea though. This will be the 5th straight race she is facing the Champ, maybe Doug Oneil should look elsewhere for her next race, as she is a talented filly.
Besides the stakes on the day, there are some great maiden and allowance races as well, so check out our twitter for some more free picks as the day unfolds….
